Starlight Destination In 2023 , Formentera received Starlight Tourist Destination certification, awarded by the Starlight Foundation (promoted by the Canary Islands Institute of Astrophysics and endorsed by UNESCO). This certification recognizes the quality of its night sky and the island's commitment to preserving it from light pollution. The best viewpoints of the sky Almost any spot away from the city center is good for stargazing, but some places are especially good: the La Mola and Cap de Barbaria lighthouses, Es Caló des Mort , Punta Prima , Punta Rasa , and the Can Marroig public estate. All offer an unobstructed view, far from the lights. When to look The skies over Formentera offer beautiful nights all year round. In summer, the Milky Way stretches across the sky, and in mid- August , the Perseid meteor shower arrives. Winter , with its longer nights and dry air, provides exceptional clarity.
