The megalithic tomb of Ca na Costa is the most spectacular prehistoric monument in the Balearic Islands and the oldest megalith in the archipelago, dating back to around 2000 BC. Discovered in 1974, it proved that Formentera was already inhabited during the Bronze Age. It consists of a circular burial chamber built from large stone slabs, surrounded by concentric circles and radial features that give it the look of a star; on the island it is known as Es Rellotge. It lies between the estany Pudent and Es Pujols, within the Parque Natural de ses Salines, with free and easy access. Visit it early in the morning or at sunset to avoid the heat.
