Cap de Barbaria I is one of the prehistoric Bronze Age settlements that dot the southwest of Formentera, an area densely populated around 1600-1000 BC. It is the closest one to the lighthouse and the car park, which makes it an easy stop on the way to the headland. With a simpler layout than the nearby Cap de Barbaria II, it preserves dry-stone structures visible from the path: the remains of huts, now fairly tumbled down, where you can still make out the line of the walls. The soft light of dawn or dusk is the best moment.
