Sant Francesc → Sant Ferran
1.8 km · 30 min a pie · 10 min en bici · Media
Route 16 is the old path that connected Sant Francesc Xavier with San Ferran de ses Roques and linked the two villages in the most direct way. Our journey begins in Formentera's capital, Sant Francesc , where we can visit the church, the ethnography museum, an exhibition in the municipal hall « Ayuntamiento Viejo » located in the same square or very close by in the Antoni Tur “Gabrielet” center, which also hosts the farmers' market, with locally sourced fruit and vegetables. The austere appearance of the church is due to the fact that the building was conceived as a defensive fortress, in addition to a religious temple, at a time when the memory of piracy was still very present. In this town, there is also the chapel of su Valla Vieja , small in size and dated 1369. We will depart from Sant Francesc towards the village of San Fernando de sus Rocas via the camino Viejo de la Mola , an old alternative path to the main road. During the walk, we can enjoy an inland rural landscape, the Can Teuet windmill, the oldest in Formentera, examples of popular architecture, cultivated fields, and small herds. We will finish our route in San Fernando de sus Rocas , which has the smallest church of the island's three Christian temples.
