Sant Francesc → Cala Saona
3.7 km · 65 min a pie · 20 min en bici · Media
This route is the alternative path to the most direct road to get from Sant Francesc Xavier to Cala Saona . Starting from the village in a southerly direction, you will find the street that leads us to the nucleus of Ses Bardetes . After this area, we will head west along dirt tracks that run through agricultural areas of domestic orchards, pine and juniper forests, and cultivated fields, until we reach Cala Saona beach. On this pleasant walk, the representative houses of traditional architecture stand out, as well as their surroundings delimited by the characteristic dry stone walls. These traditional walls, made manually by the people of Formentera in the past, fulfilled many functions at once: delimiting the land, protecting crops from the wind, and acting as a natural barrier to prevent livestock from escaping a property. Likewise, when preparing the field for cultivation, the stones with which the walls would be built were obtained. Our route ends in Cala Saona , which is distinguished by the intense turquoise color of its waters that contrasts with the red of its rocks.
