Es Cap → Torrent de s'Alga

1.8 km · 30 min a pie · 10 min en bici · Fácil

Just two kilometers of road perpendicular to the Es Cap road, bring us closer to one of the least known and most special places on the island: the Torrent de S’Alga . Starting from the Es Cap crossroads, we will follow the Camí de Can Parra direction along a path framed by dry stone walls. This path, which due to its characteristic zig-zag gives the sensation of showing us something new at each bend, also functions as a torrent: it has a slight but always constant slope directing rainwater towards the sea. We finally arrive at the Torrent de S’Alga , characterized by its well-preserved boat shelters where fishermen protect their small boats from the sea and rain. The stripped and dry juniper branches stuck into the stone by the sea will catch our attention. From them hang some fish with meticulous wooden structures that pierce them. This is a traditional technique with which fishermen dried fish to preserve and consume it all year round. Once dry, it is toasted over a fire, crumbled, and preserved in glass jars with olive oil, becoming “ peix sec ”, the star ingredient of the ensalada payesa, which can be tasted in numerous restaurants on the island.
