La Mola → Punta Roja
3.4 km · 45 min a pie · 15 min en bici · Media
The emblematic Molí Vell de La Mola is the main motivation for this walk, which delves into the southeastern part of La Mola to end with splendid sea views at Punta Roja. Starting from the town of Pilar de La Mola, we will follow the signs towards Molí Vell. This flour mill is one of the seven that existed in Formentera and one of the three oldest on the island, and undoubtedly the best preserved of them all. It dates back to 1778, and its interior, which still maintains the complete machinery preserved thanks to the care and work of its former owners, can be visited during the summer months. Traditionally, mills were activated by animal traction, known as “blood mills” (molinos de sangre), and constituted the oldest system for grinding grain and making flour. Later, taking advantage of the island's topography exposed to all winds, the animal traction was replaced by wind mill mechanisms. After passing the mill, we will walk through cultivated fields along a forest track that crosses a wooded area dotted with isolated houses and heading towards the cliffs of Punta Roja, the final point of our itinerary, which offers imposing views.
