Can Marroig → Punta Gavina

The distinguishing feature of route 5 is that it runs along part of the northwest coast of Formentera until it reaches the tower of La Gavina . This route starts from the Can Marroig Interpretation Center, located in a wooded area that contrasts with the lunar landscape we will find next. It is a desert-like spot dotted with rocks and stones of whimsical shapes. In the past, this area functioned as a quarry from which marés was extracted, a calcareous stone historically used in the island's constructions. This walk runs along a steep coast, difficult to access from the sea, whose reward lies in the formidable views of the Ibizan islet of Es Vedrà , Es Vedranell and Eivissa itself. To conclude, we will arrive at the Tower of La Gavina , built between 1762 and 1763. It is one of the five watchtowers on the island, part of the defensive system, from where the alarm was raised, in the form of fire or smoke signal, in case of attack from the sea.
