On August 12, 2026, Formentera will be the scene of one of the most anticipated astronomical events of recent years: a total solar eclipse that can be seen during the last hours of the afternoon. To experience it in a safe, organized and environmentally respectful way, the Consell Insular de Formentera, with the collaboration of the Associació Astronòmica de Formentera, is organizing a special day of observation in Es Cap de Barbaria , one of the most emblematic landscapes of the island. An experience to look at the sky The event will feature four professional telescopes and screens to closely observe the eclipse and learn more about this extraordinary phenomenon. Afterward, the evening will continue with meteor shower viewing until approximately 11:00 p.m. All participants will receive a commemorative pack containing a drawstring backpack, a fan, and certified solar observation glasses. Water will be provided to attendees during the event. Exclusive access via shuttle bus To protect the natural area and avoid overcrowding, access to the observation area by private vehicle is not permitted . Travel to Es Cap de Barbaria is by shuttle bus, departing at 5:45 PM, 6:00 PM, 6:30 PM, and 6:50 PM from the temporary bus stop on the Sant Francesc ring road. The ticket includes the round trip on the shuttle and travel on regular bus lines to reach the starting point, reinforced for the occasion. Tickets General admission: €9. Reduced rate: €4.50 for seniors (65+) and young people aged 7-18. Children under 6: free, with mandatory reservation. Seating is limited and tickets are available until August 10th at 10:00 PM or until capacity is reached.
